A lot of fight and no goal in Vallecas

Rayo drew goalless in Vallecas with Athletic in an entertaining match, very back and forth, with a lot of rhythm and under the rain. Both teams were able to win, but the goalkeepers emerged as the best and prevented the score from moving. The goalkeepers dressed in black, in homage to the mythical Iríbar for its 80th anniversary.

Athletic had a little more of the ball in the first half, in which they enjoyed more chances, although there was a very clear one for each team in this act. The first was that of Athletic, in the 31st minute, and it was twice. Guruceta finished off and Dimitrievski put his hand in. Isi Palazón cleared and again the ball returned to the local area, where Sancet headed it to stop Dimitrievski again in his best intervention.

Rayo's reply came in the 40th minute, with a crossed left foot that went to the post with Agirrezabala already beaten and the stands singing a goal.

The second part began with the same tonic. The absence of goals meant that Andoni Iraola, after the first quarter, brought on Raúl de Tomás, who came on for Camello, on loan from Atlético. In the lions, Valverde reacted by putting into action two footballers with a goal, Iñaki Williams and the veteran Raúl García.

Rayo was able to score at minute 82 on a shot by Álvaro García that Raúl deflected from Tomás, but Agirrezabala was ready to rectify his position and cleared the ball with one hand. De Tomás tried again, this time from afar, but the Basque goalkeeper was impassable.

The six minutes added also had their emotion. Nico Williams smashed a ball into the crossbar that could have been the winning goal and Sancet was given a direct red card for a tackle from behind on center-back Mumim.
