A fire destroys some sets of the Cinecittà studios in Rome

A fire declared this Monday afternoon has destroyed some sets located in the famous Cinecittà film studios, in Rome. A few minutes ago, firefighters announced that the fire has already been extinguished.

As confirmed by the same fire department, the fire has caused the destruction of some sets of this mythical cinematographic complex, in which more than 3,000 films have been shot, some of them Oscar winners.

Specifically, firefighters from Italy have explained on Twitter that the flames have destroyed "the set of the old set of Assisi and Florence." Part of the structure that houses the Big Brother house has also been affected, as well as part of the set for the series The Young Pope, by Paolo Sorrentino, according to Italian media. "The work of the cleaning teams continues," the firefighters concluded in the tweet.

The fire broke out around 3:50 p.m. this afternoon and has generated a thick column of black smoke, which has been seen from various points in Rome.

Three fire crews have gone to the area to extinguish the flames and protect unaffected structures, while local police have closed traffic on adjacent streets to prevent further damage.

There have been no injuries or intoxications and at the moment the causes of the fire are unknown. For this reason, the Italian Police will open an investigation to try to clarify what happened.
