A public consultation to transform an old shooting range in Paterna into a green space

If anyone has ideas for a new large recreational, educational, open and inclusive park integrated in nature, this is the time to share it. The Valencian entrepreneur Iker Marcaide has opened a website to receive ideas, suggestions or proposals "from any person or organization" to take into account in the project and future design of the space in which the old Les Moles de Paterna shooting range will become , just a dozen kilometers from Valencia.

The founder of Zubi Group has been the provisional winner of this land for military use, with nearly 650,000 square meters, which has been auctioned by the Ministry of Defense through the Institute of Housing, Infrastructure and Equipment (Invied). The provisional award took place yesterday after the opening of envelopes and opens the door to the creation of a benchmark place for family leisure integrated in nature.

From the company of the entrepreneur they explain that the space, included in the Plan for the Management of Natural Resources of the Turia Natural Park, will be a large park that "will promote more sustainable leisure, the well-being of adults and children and the care of nature" . They insist on explaining that this non-profit initiative seeks to create a space for everyone that is a new green lung for the Valencia metropolitan area.

This will be ensured by the foundation that will manage it, of a family nature and currently in the process of creation and that will have as axes, they point out, working for child welfare, nature conservation and the fight against poverty.

The new foundation created by Marcaide will be shared with her partner Margarita Albors, an impactful entrepreneur like him and co-creator of the La Pinada neighborhood and the Imagine Montessori school.

The so-called Paredón de España is located precisely on the land of the first, in whose tributes the firm of Marcaide usually participates. In El Terrer de Paterna -as Hèctor Sanjuán explained in this article- 2,338 people were shot after the Civil War. It was the second place in the national territory with the most summary executions, after the Eastern cemetery in Madrid.

In addition, these lands in Les Moles, now acquired by Marcaide, are close to the project that Eurofund and Intu wanted to build, Port Mediterrani, the project that the Consell rejected and that foresaw the development of a leisure center in the town of Paterna.
