3 people dead after plane crashes in Georgia, leaving wing inside mobile home

Gainesville fire division chief Keith Smith told colleagues that the fire department responded to a 911 call made shortly after 6 rebounds by a passerby who noticed debris from the airplane on the side of the street.

He said they have now confirmed that there have been three people aboard the plane in the time of the crash, and all three are dead.

"Memorial Park Road closed at Cross Street to get one engine airplane crash. Please use alternative routes," the Gainesville Police Department wrote on Facebook Friday evening.

The plane was reportedly heading into Daytona Beach, Florida, when it crashed to a wooded area near several houses in Gainesville.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash, Smith explained.

He added that there were no injuries on the floor, but there was some property damage.

Section of the wing in the airplane, he said, was discovered inside a bedroom at a mobile home in the region. The family that owns the house was having dinner in another room once the plane crashed. The inhabitants were not hurt.

Also, four adults and a child were evacuated from a nearby home after gas dropped in the area, ABC-affiliate WSB-TV reported.

Personnel are now working to recover the bodies in the airplane, Smith said, adding that the Sheriff's Office will be handling the investigation.
