A married couple left more than 180,000 euros in the trunk of a vehicle after suffering a traffic accident in Madrid. They went to look for him at the police station three days later, where they ended up being investigated for a crime of money laundering, a spokesperson for the Local Body informed Europa Press.

The accident took place last Friday around 3:35 a.m. when they were driving their Renault Laguna at 81 Alcalá Street and collided with another car.

According to the owner of the first vehicle, which was very damaged, he became very nervous after what happened and left the place hastily. Several municipal police arrived at the area and after carrying out the report, they took their car to the Vicálvaro depot.

Three days later, its owner went to the Ciudad Lineal Municipal Police station stating that after the accident he left a backpack with a quantity of money inside the car. The agents asked him about his origin and he stated that he was the owner of a roadside assistance company and that he could justify his origin, but not at that time.

Then, as protocol dictates, he was taken with several agents to the warehouse, where they located the money and verified that there were 181,400 euros, all in 200-euro bills, so they proceeded to seize them, leaving them in a special bank account for these cases.

In addition, they offered him 500 euros for his expenses, as required by law, but they rejected them. The police intervention ended with a sign of agreement, leaving him charged with a possible crime of money laundering. The man had a history of fraud, threats and illicit association, as the newspaper ABC reported today.
