The Moroccan authorities arrested 17 migrants this morning in a raid on Mount Gurugú near Melilla, where small groups of sub-Saharans have been congregating for days for the first time since the June 24 tragedy.

According to what some witnesses to the events and a security source informed Efe, the clashes took place in the same area of the mountain from where hundreds of migrants, especially Sudanese, left four months ago to cross into the autonomous city, in an attempt to by between 1,700 and 2,000 people in which at least 23 of them died.

A witness indicated that the clashes occurred around 3 in the morning, a group of about 40 or 50 migrants participated in them and during the raid the Moroccan authorities were helped by a helicopter.

The forests of Mount Gurugú, from where you can see Melilla and also the Moroccan border city of Nador, is where migrants usually take refuge in camps waiting to jump the fence of the Spanish city.

Since the tragic attempt on June 24, the mountain has been practically empty of these people, after the intense raids carried out by the Moroccan authorities to keep them away from it.

However, in recent days some are beginning to congregate, as are hundreds of them moving from various cities such as Casablanca to towns near Nador such as Uxda or Berkan.

Security sources, as well as the Sudanese themselves, have confirmed to Efe that they are planning a new incursion into the autonomous city and the Moroccan authorities are trying to abort it by arresting the migrants and returning them to the cities in the center and west of the country from where they left. .
