1,000 euros are left in an ATM and retrieved 24 hours later

At the end of the day, go to the cashier to deposit the business cash and, when you get home, check on the phone that the thousand euros did not appear in the bank account movements. This man from Pamplona was scared for 24 hours.

The bills had been sticking out of the slot of an ATM in the Iturrama neighborhood. Another citizen who was walking at night noticed the wad and the sign on the screen that warned that he "could collect the money from him."

This man took said amount -1,000 euros in bills of different denominations- with the certainty that it belonged to someone who had not properly completed a bank operation and, since it was already late at night, he went home to, the next day First thing in the morning, go to the Navarra Police Headquarters.

There the statement was taken, the facts described were collected and he was informed of a precept that is given when anyone finds something that is not theirs.

As explained by the police force in a note, article 615 of the Civil Code establishes that "anyone who finds a movable thing, other than a treasure, must return it to its previous owner. If the latter is not known, he must immediately consign it to the Mayor of the town where the discovery was made. After two years, counting from the day of the second publication, without the owner having appeared, the thing found or its value will be awarded to the person who found it." It happened a few weeks ago in Pontevedra, when a woman received 520 euros from a wallet that she had found two years ago. On this occasion, the lost euros could be recovered by its owner.

The National Police contacted the bank and it was learned that a client had complained for not finding a deposit made in his bank account the night of the discovery. The agents contacted said client and verified that the number and nominal value of the different bills exactly matched the bills delivered by the citizen, who narrated his entire journey with the failed attempt to enter money.

He was summoned to police stations to deliver the 1,000 euros. Before the agents, according to the note, he thanked the investigations and expressed his surprise at the honesty of the person who saw the money in the ATM and, instead of keeping it, handed it over to the police.
