The 10th edition of the Americana Film Fest, the North American indie film festival:

This week Barcelona celebrates North American independent cinema with the tenth edition of the Americana Film Fest. From Tuesday to Sunday a total of 36 feature films and 32 shorts are shown in the Girona, Zumzeig, Phenomena cinemas and in the Filmoteca de Catalunya. Most of the films are unpublished in Spain with presence at festivals such as Cannes, San Sebastián, Venice, Berlin and Sundance.

Notable among this weekend's programming is All That Breathes, Shaunak Sen's Oscar-nominated documentary that follows two brothers in Delhi who, in turbulent times, dedicate their lives to healing three injured birds. Also the horror comedy Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, directed by Halina Reijn, which will be screened in Girona cinemas on Saturday and Sunday. The sci-fi drama Acidman, directed by Alex Lehmann, will close the festival on Sunday at Zumzeig. Other films that will be shown are Something You Said Last Night, by Luis De Filippis; Oscar Bing Liu's All These Sons; Falcon Lake, by Charlotte Le Bon; or Emily the Criminal, by John Patton Ford.

The Film Library is doing a retrospective of filmmaker Todd Solondz, which comes to an end with the screening of his films Dark Horse (Friday) and Palindromes (Sunday). The full festival program is available on its website.

Lewis Capaldi's world tour arrives in Barcelona tonight:

Lewis Capaldi has been one of the names of the world since the publication in 2019 of his album Divinely Uninspired to a hellish extent. With songs like Someone you loved or Before you go, he reached number 1 worldwide. The Scottish singer-songwriter brings his Broken By Desire to be Heavenly Sent tour to the Palau Sant Jordi tonight.

André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra fill the Palau Sant Jordi with music on Sunday:

After his visit to Spain at the beginning of 2022, the maestro André Rieu returns and makes a stop this Sunday, March 12, at the Palau Sant Jordi. He does so as part of his World Tour 2023 tour, accompanied by 60 musicians from the Johann Strauss Orchestra. The famed Dutch violinist has a blazing career of worldwide hits, so much so that the size and revenue of his tours are rivaled only by the biggest pop and rock music acts.

Anna Agulló Prieto takes us on a journey to madness with The Goldfish, in the Atrium Room:

El Peix daurat is a theatrical monologue in which the protagonist and author Anna Agulló shares her experience with her mental disorder. Throughout the performance, Agulló talks about mental health and current shared concerns such as work pressure, the obsession with success, romantic love, fat-phobia or gender violence.

The Mercat de les Flors presents Constellation Dance by Lucinda Childs:

Created by New York choreographer Lucinda Childs and performed by the Lyon Opera Ballet, the piece DANCE is considered one of the high points of postmodern dance. In turn, the original film by Sol LeWitt is projected on stage, producing a hypnotic dissonance between the stage and the background.

Macho Man, the labyrinth against gender violence at the Santa Monica Art Center:

Within the week of 8M, this scenic proposal will end, which puts gender violence on the table in the sphere of couples, families, work and the courts. During 60 minutes, and in groups of 6, visitors go through eleven different rooms where they become the protagonists of the space. The objective of this proposal is to know the situation of male violence in Spain through interaction, images, sensations and experiences.

Beauty and Pain, the Oscar-nominated documentary by Laura Poitras:

La belleza y el dolor was the winner of the Golden Lion in Venice and is nominated for this edition of the Oscars for best documentary. In it, documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras follows the life of artist Nan Goldin and her activism against the Sackler pharmaceutical dynasty, responsible for the largest opioid epidemic in US history, of which she herself was a victim.

The sixth installment of the Scream saga:

After the blockbuster of the fifth installment, comes Scream VI, the sequel that will continue the Wes Craven saga. Starring Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Courteney Cox (Friends) and Hayden Panettiere (Nashville), the film follows the four survivors of the latest installment, who seek to leave the Woodsboro massacre behind. The story not only takes place in New York, but it does so during the celebration of Halloween, which makes it difficult for the protagonists to recognize the murderer with people dressed as Ghostface.

The blue caftan, the film that breaks the taboo of homosexuality in Morocco:

Directed by the Moroccan filmmaker and actress Maryam Touzani, The Blue Caftan was shortlisted for the Oscar for Best International Film. The film tells the story of Halim and Mina, a couple who own a caftan dress shop who hire Youseff, a young apprentice with the same passion for sewing as them. But, little by little, she realizes what Youssef's presence means for her husband.

Caixaforum presents The Century of the Portrait, dedicated to 19th century portraiture:

The Century of the Portrait is the first exhibition organized in Spain devoted exclusively to portraiture in the 19th century, a period that was highly marked by this genre. Thanks to the contribution of the Museo Nacional del Prado, this is a varied sample of portraits in all their manifestations: painting, sculpture, medals, miniature, watercolor, drawing, etching, lithography and photography.
