Spain offers nationality to Nicaraguan political prisoners

The Government of Pedro Sánchez has offered Spanish nationality to the 222 Nicaraguan political prisoners released by the Daniel Ortega regime and who have been deported to the United States.

The offer of Spanish nationality is extended to the political prisoners who are still being held in Nicaraguan prisons, whom the Ortega government will strip of their nationality for being accused of "treason against the homeland."

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, in statements to Servimedia, which Ministry sources have confirmed to the EFE news agency.

The Nicaraguan authorities expelled a group of 222 "political prisoners" to the United States on Thursday, including five priests, whom they disqualified for life from holding public or popularly elected office and stripped of their nationality, declaring them stateless.

The 222 Nicaraguan prisoners, including 7 who tried to challenge the current president for the Presidency, were expelled to the United States "as traitors to the country," and have received a humanitarian permit that will allow them to live and work in the North American country.
