Sánchez warns that "democracy will prevail" in the face of the "so crude conspiracy" of the right in the TC

"Where is Pedro Sánchez?", they have reproached the right-wing throughout this turbulent day on Thursday in which the Constitutional Court (TC) has threatened to interrupt the parliamentary process and the vote on a legislative initiative in the Congress of Deputies. The Prime Minister was in Brussels, participating in a European Council summit. But as soon as the meeting of the leaders of the community club has concluded, already at night, Sánchez has appeared before the media to issue a clear warning to the right: "Democracy will prevail and the Constitution will prevail."

"Today the right and also the ultra-right have tried to gag, nothing more and nothing less, than Parliament, to maintain the blockade of an institution as important for the proper functioning of our democracy as the Constitutional Court", said the chief of the Executive. They have already done it, he has recalled, with the General Council of the Judiciary, whose mandate expired four years ago, and now they intend to do it, as he has denounced, with the highest interpreter of the Constitution.

Sánchez has thus highlighted that the PP has been capable of "hijacking the Constitution during these four years", and now "has tried to block Parliament and a vote today, something that had not happened in the 40 years of democracy" . "We do not know what they will do next," he admitted, given the postponement until next Monday of the extraordinary plenary session of the Constitutional Court to decide on the amparo appeal, and the very precautionary measures demanded by the PP. “But whatever it is, the Spanish people must have the peace of mind that democracy will prevail and that the Constitution will prevail. Because Spain, despite these behaviors, is one of the main democracies in Europe ”, he assured. But he has congratulated himself that, finally, Parliament has been able to carry out its task with full normality, "despite this so crude conspiracy of the right and the extreme right."

"Not everything goes," Sánchez warned the Popular Party, Vox and Ciudadanos. "An illegitimate government cannot be called, a government emanating from the polls and Parliament cannot be branded as a criminal and coup government, as we have heard in recent years," he lamented. "You have to respect the Constitution, you have to comply with each and every one of its articles, you cannot allow the kidnapping of institutions such as the TC and the CGPJ, you have to respect Parliament, the result of the polls, and the separation of powers," he claimed. "Ultimately, democracy must be respected."

Now, he has assured that he hopes that "common sense and the Constitution will prevail" in the TC, before its new extraordinary plenary session next Monday. "We are facing an attempt to run over our democracy, by the political right and the judicial right, cheered on by the media right, and this is unacceptable," he warned. And he wanted to convey a message of tranquility to the public. "Because in the face of all these attempts to violate, the guarantee is that the Constitution will be complied with and respected," he insisted. "Our democracy is going to prevail against any attempt to violate it", stressed the President of the Government.

To questions from the press, Sánchez has also responded fully to the harsh criticism of the reform of the crime of embezzlement from regional presidents of the PSOE such as the Castilian-La Mancha Emiliano García Page. "I respect his statement, but I do not share it," he warned. And he has justified all his initiatives to "overcome a black stage" in Catalonia. "What is best for Spain is what is best for Catalonia, which is coexistence," he argued. "The process is over and today in Catalonia coexistence prevails and the Constitution is complied with," he stressed.

The leader of the PSOE has assured that three elements were part of the process, "and that they are already finished." The first: "The unity of the independence movement is broken today." The second: "The unilateral route is not being considered today." And the third: "The breach of the Constitution by the pro-independence forces and the bankruptcy of democratic legality, today the law and the Constitution are fulfilled." “The process is over. And in Catalonia there will be no referendum on self-determination ”, he insisted. "October 1 damaged the reputation of Spanish democracy, and I am not going to allow it," Sánchez has settled from Brussels, despite the fact that ERC once again put the focus on the right to self-determination.
