Barcelona inaugurates the first Buddhist film festival in the country

Buddhist cinema arrives in Barcelona in the form of a festival, the first to be held in all of Spain dedicated to this theme. From October 19 to 23, the Verdi Park cinemas in the Catalan capital will screen "films that share essential Buddhist values but that are at the same time universal, such as non-violence, or connection with nature", explains to La Vanguardia the director of the festival, Montse Castellà

In this sense, he clarifies that the event will be divided into three axes: climate change, education and gender equality. In addition, Castellá anticipates that the opening session, which will take place this Wednesday, will be attended by the renowned German filmmaker Doris Dörrie, who will present the award-winning film Memories from Fukushima, a story of friendship between a young activist and an old woman after the the nuclear catastrophe that occurred in the Japanese city in 2011. The event will also be attended by the architect Benedetta Tagliabue and Xuan Lan, a reference in online yoga.

Throughout these days, viewers will also be able to enjoy other screenings such as the documentary Descending the mountain, which shows an innovative experiment to expand consciousness, or Happy educators will change the world, a film that delves into the practice of mindfulness.

The Buddhist Film Festival of Catalonia is an initiative of the Catalan Coordinator of Buddhist Entities (CCBE), which brings together communities of all Buddhist traditions in the Catalan territory and has the support of the Dharma-Nesga Foundation and the City Council of Barcelona, in addition to the collaboration of the Buddhist Film Foundation, organizer of the International Buddhist Film Festival that has been held since 2003 in the main cities of the world, such as Los Angeles, London and Hong Kong.

Tickets will be priced at €8 and €2 for a children's session and are on sale through Ticketic.
