The Ertzaintza locates an abandoned hole in Oñati, presumably from ETA

The Ertzaintza has found in a wooded area of the Gipuzkoan municipality of Oñati an abandoned dump, "presumably from ETA", with various explosive material, the Basque Department of Security has reported.

The "hiding place" was in a cavity between the rocks of a vertical wall at a height of about two meters from the ground, in an area called Arriona in the aforementioned town.

Inside, covered with stones, the Basque Police have located eight different types of detonators, fuse remains and a bag containing 2 kilos of rubber-type explosive, "among other evidence."

"According to what was observed in the rocky cavity and due to the remote location of the finding, it is interpreted that, in all probability, it is a hiding place used by the terrorist organization ETA", highlights Security in a note.

The Ertzaintza has opened police proceedings that will be sent to the Central Court of Instruction number 4 of the National High Court, once the corresponding expert studies are carried out "to determine if the elements were used in criminal actions."

The inspection of this dump is part of the investigation that the Autonomous Police maintains "permanently open" with the aim of clarifying "each and every one of the unsolved ETA attacks".

In this sense, the Department of Security recalls "the importance" of citizens informing the Ertzaintza, by calling 112 or communicating it at one of its police stations, any location of similar sites, in which drums are observed, buckets, refrigerators... but without searching the place because the possible presence of explosive devices in poor condition poses a serious risk to life.
