The PSPV will not increase the tourist rate despite the latest Compromís attempts

The PSPV does not win for scares with the delicate processing of the tourist tax. After managing to agree with its partners on joint amendments to a Valencian Tax on Tourist Stays that divide the Socialists, the out-of-time proposal of its spokesperson at the Valencia City Council, Sandra Gómez, gave wings to Compromís to claim the possibility that the consistories that so wished could increase the agreed fee on establishment and night. However, the PSPV does not want to reopen the debate and has already warned its partners that the agreed amounts will not be touched.

Faced with the problem of tourist apartments in the city of Valencia, Gómez proposed, once the amendment period had passed. the possibility of taxing the stay with 6 euros for this type of overnight stay. An option that, after the initial surprise -especially for the socialist group- was taken advantage of by Compromís to demand greater "flexibility" with the intention of being able to raise the maximum prices established in each category -now the maximum would be 2 euros per night in a 5-star or 4-star superior hotel.

Yesterday, the trustee of Compromís, Papi Robles, pointed out that they had presented their partners with a proposal that would allow the City Councils "to establish, in execution of their municipal autonomy, a surcharge on the Valencian tax for tourist stays." This surcharge, explained the Compromís approximation amendment, would be required "from the same taxpayers and in the same cases contemplated in the regulations governing the tax and will consist of a percentage of the full quota of up to a maximum of 200%".

Despite this, the PSPV ignored this proposal yesterday and said it was not aware of it. In this line. its deputy spokesperson, Carmen Martínez, assured that the agreements are already closed and the rate roadmap “is what it is”. Hours later, the Socialists formally informed Compromís that they would not reopen the debate and that they were not going to introduce changes.
