The emotional farewell letter from Cesc Fàbregas to Piqué: "The best is yet to come"

Cesc Fàbregas and Gerard Piqué have maintained a great friendship since they met at La Masia. Both were the great leaders of that golden '87 generation that Leo Messi joined a few years later.

The Barcelona center-back has decided to end his career and the current Como footballer wanted to share a letter on social media dedicated to his former teammate at Barça and the Spanish national team. In it he praises his career and reminds him that "the best is yet to come."

The midfielder from Arenys de Mar published a letter with several photographs of both: in the youth categories of Barça and once again with the Blaugrana or with the red after his time in the Premier League.

"We have a million photos together, but this first one is the one I feel the most and I would like to repeat it right now and give you a hug to say thank you, thank you for accompanying me on this very special journey," begins the text written in Catalan by Fàbregas, that illustrates the first words with an image of both celebrating a victory in the lower categories of Barcelona.

Cesc remembers that his story began 26 years ago at the Barça school. It was in a test match in which, according to the Arenys footballer's account, the center-back already wore "the mythical number 3" and stood out "above all" the footballers.

"The rest is history -continues the letter-, a story full of happiness and some disappointment, but above all, of a love and respect that cannot be explained in words. What we have experienced these 26 years is fortunate and a inexplicable privilege.

In the letter, the midfielder explains that he will not be able to attend the match against Almería, but specifies that his heart "will be" at the Camp Nou. "My eyes won't take their eyes off the television," adds Cesc. "As a footballer, little to say, a guy with a competitive level that few I have seen in my life. Your career speaks for itself. Thank you for always treating me in a special way and for having grown by my side", he highlights.

And he concludes: "Now remember, the best is yet to come. And as you say at the end of your video, we are waiting for you to return to your beloved Barça one day. I love you, friend".

At the moment, some teammates from the Blaugrana first team and other 'enemies' such as Thomas Müller (Bayern) have spoken out. However, he has not said anything to another ex-Blaugrana like Leo Messi, with whom he has had a distant relationship since he left Barça.
