COVER STORY - Summer 2022 is a time of misery for passengers on the air. After two years of the pandemic and staff shortages, cancelled flights, and bad weather, airlines struggle to meet demand. CBS News correspondent Kris Van Cleave speaks with aviation experts and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to discuss why the airline industry isn't meeting public expectations.

HISTORY - Heads of State - A walk among giant Presidential Busts. They were dropped onto a swampy field near Croaker, Va. and have become an accidental tourist attraction. The massive, decaying busts are approximately 20 feet tall and weigh several tons each. They represent every U.S. president, from George Washington to George W. Bush. Rita Braver, Correspondent, visits the enormous presidential sculptures that have been turning many people's heads.

NEWS: Sherri Chessen, 1962 Abortion: "The God within of me said, ‘Don’t have that baby!'" Years before Roe V. Wade protected women's rights to choose, an Arizona mother of 4 faced the possibility of giving birth to a child with deformities after taking Thalidomide. Sherri Chessen, who was unable to have an abortion, traveled to Sweden to undergo the procedure. Her every move was followed closely by a breathless media. Chessen, now 89, speaks with Major Garrett, CBS News correspondent, about her decision (which she said "any mother would make to save her child from suffering") and the Supreme Court's "hateful ruling to overturn Roe.

NATURE: Amazing friendships in the animal world. Lesley Stahl, correspondent, visits Funny Farm Rescue in New Jersey, a sanctuary for elderly, neglected, or abused animals. Here, interspecies friendships can be formed and predators can become friends.

VETERANS: Honoring WWII Medal of Honor recipient Hershel WilliamsDuring the Battle of Iwo Jima in the face of strong enemy resistance, Marine Cpl. Hershel Williams was awarded the Medal of Honor after he destroyed several machine-gun pillboxes that were heavily defended. His gallantry and service to his country did not stop there. This "Sunday Morning," profile of Williams, who died June 29, at the age 98, was originally broadcast on May 30, 2021. Williams talks with David Martin, CBS News' national security correspondent, about his efforts to help Gold Star families.
